Improving Life

Home Remedies You Can Safely Use

The number 1 reason why we Americans have problems with our health is that we don't eat healthy. By the time you are looking for home remedies you are already sick. Before we get to these remedies, you should plan on changing your lifestyle after you are well. Drink more water, eat better meals, and get out and walk more. You'll be glad you did.

When you become ill you want to get well as soon as possible. And who wants to go to the doctor or dentist? Well, there are times when we must give in but not always. Here are a few home remedies you can try before you give up and pay the co-pay.

Remedies for Colds and Flue

Everyone tells you to eat chicken soup. Any hot liquids can make you feel good but in reality the chicken soup has an anti-viral effect that has been confirmed by science. Chicken soup is the best medicine for the flu or a cold.

But some hot medicinal teas work well, too. Also, any hot caffeinated drinks will open up your bronchial tubes and help you breathe better. Don't use just one home remedy for a cold or flu, use several.

If you stay home you can take a hot shower two or three times a day. That helps you tremendously, especially when you allow the water to splash down on your head where your sinuses are suffering.

Remedies for High Blood Sugar

Drink bittermelon tea. This has been proven scientifically to lower blood sugar. You'll find it lives up to its name because it has a slightly bitter taste but it's not that bad and you can get used to it quickly.

Another natural remedy for high blood sugar is cinammon (real Ceylon cinnamon, not the other stuff). Take about 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon a day and your blood sugar should improve.

Garlic may also lower your blood sugar. Eating garlic on high fiber toasted bread, for example, is better for you than the usual jelly donut or bagel and cream cheese.

Remedies for Infections

You should always wash cuts and scrapes with soap and hot water but when the infection develops anyway you can try a double whammy home remedy: honey.

Honey is a natural antibiotic that works as both a topical agent and when ingested. You need to take about a teaspoon of dark honey (buckwheat and manuka are two of the best) twice a day. If your infection is really bad you'll need to see a doctor but honey just may save you some money on the bills.

Garlic is another natural antibiotic that helps you body fight off bacteria and virus infections. Garlic is best consumed raw when you use it for medicinal purposes.

Finally, consider using turmeric. This natural substance fights inflammation as well as infection.
